The big christmas storm

A 986mb low off the Queen Charlotte islands will continue to hammer the area through tommorow. A storng flow from the south will bring further precipitaion amounts to 100mm by christmas morning in Howe Sound.

Last nights snowfall totalled 30cm, and in the last 24Hrs: 44cm (17in) cm

Winds last night at Horstman Hut were Se 80 gusting 120 km/ph. So when the alpine finally reopens it will be a vastley transformed playground. A snowfall warning remains in place for this evening although it is a mix of rain and snow in the valley. Freezing level is at 900m.

Friday:  Continued snowfall with strong southerly winds.  Accumulations could reach 35 - 40 cm with amounts tapering inland.  Freezing levels should peak at 1200m. 

Saturday:  Precipitation will taper through the day with freezing levels reaching 1500m.  Winds lose strength to between 40 & 50 km/h.

 Sunday:  Light precipitation and freezing levels reaching 1100m.  Winds turn to westerly.
