Rainfall warning for
Whistler continued

Total rainfall amounts of 50 to 100 mm or more are expected in the above regions tonight and continuing into Sunday morning.

This is a warning that significant rainfall is expected or occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements.

A Pacific frontal system draped across the central coast of British Columbia will slide southward across the south coast tonight through Sunday morning. The system is giving strong winds and heavy rains as well as some heavy snow over parts of the northern inland sections of the north coast.

Ahead of the frontal system, southeast winds of up to 110 km/h are occurring over Northern Vancouver island and the central coast. These winds will begin to ease this evening. In the south, southerly winds up to 100 km/h are forecast over West Vancouver Island and up to 70 km/h over the waters of the inner straits. These winds will ease early Sunday morning.

Heavy rainfall will continue and amounts of 50 mm to 100 mm are forecast with over 100 mm likely in mountainous regions on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Rising freezing levels will bring significant rain to high elevation in the mountains.

Over the north coast, cold air inland will delay the transition to rain. Snow will continue this evening then will likely become mixed with rain or change briefly over to rain this evening as a strong inflow develops later this evening. However a few flurries will redevelop over the inland region in the wake of the front overnight. Additional snowfall accumulations will range from 5 to 10 cm.
