Arctic outflow warning for
Whistler continued

Arctic outflow will give wind chill values exceeding minus 20.

An Arctic ridge of high pressure building across the British Columbia interior is producing strong outflow winds through coastal valleys and inlets. The strong outflow winds in combination with very cold air are producing wind chill values exceeding minus 20 degrees for much of the BC coast with values down to minus 35 reported on the north coast.

The Fraser Valley will experience strong outflow winds and blowing snow leading to treacherous conditions. These conditions are forecast to intensify this morning as the Arctic front pushes towards the coast and snowfall gets thrown into the mix. Temperatures well below freezing and increasing outflow winds will also create wind chill values down to about minus 25 through the Fraser Valley as well as the Whistler and Howe Sound regions. The worst and coldest conditions are expected to occur later this morning with a moderating trend beginning this afternoon.
