Warm subtropical air / March pineapple

Forecast


A large Pacific frontal system is rapidly approaching coastal British Columbia regions and will make landfall over North Coast regions through today, and to South Coast regions starting Saturday morning. The air is subtropical in nature so expect a sort of March pineapple express on Saturday. The smell of the tropics will be evident today. The system will continue to slide south exiting our region by Sunday morning. 

The Freezing level is holding at 1500m so far..Probably it will fluctuate upwards to 1700m.

Friday: Mainly cloudy with flurries and possible sunny breaks – 3-5 cm. The freezing level remains near 1500 m and ridge top winds are moderate from the W-NW.  
Saturday: Heavy Snow above the FL – 30-45 cm. The freezing level climbs to 1800 m and winds are very strong from the SW.
Sunday: Continued moderate snow tapering through the day. The freezing level hovers around 1400m and winds moderate and gusty from the SW.

Rainfall warning in effect for:
Howe Sound

Rainfall accumulations of 50 to 70 mm expected for Howe Sound and up to 100 to 120 mm expected for West Vancouver Island and North Vancouver Island through tonight and Saturday.

This is a warning that significant rainfall is expected or occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..listen for updated statements.

South Coast regions, specifically Howe Sound will see between 50 to 70 mm of rain starting overnight and continuing right through Saturday.
