Smells like pineapples

You might notice a tropical smell in the air today as a new wave of precip hits the coast later today.

It's is 4.3c in creekside, the good news is the latest weather models show the main precipitation going a bit north overnight tonight when the main rain is forecast. Long range models show cooling with snow for next week.

In the short term, a break between frontal systems has allowed a temporary reprieve from the heavy rain.

Heavy rain expected to redevelop tonight and continue through Thursday.


A series of moist Pacific frontal systems continue to impact the South Coast this week.

The heavy rain has tapered off to showers today across the South Coast. However, another frontal system tapping subtropical moisture is poised to strike the South Coast tonight. Heavy rain is forecast to redevelop across Metro Vancouver, Howe Sound, West Vancouver Island and the Fraser Valley this evening and continue all day Thursday. Additional amounts of 50 to 80 mm is forecast by Thursday night. For West Vancouver Island 100 to 120 mm is forecast by Thursday morning.

Wednesday: Another 5-10cm of snow is expected with freezing levels rising as high as 1700m and extreme southwest winds.

Thursday: 10-15cm of new snow, with freezing levels around 1800m and light to moderate southeasterly winds.

Friday: Continued snowfall with another 5-10cm of accumulation, freezing levels remaining around 1800m and moderate southerly winds.
