High pressure / cold air

A ridge of high pressure is building over the south coast, bringing with it cool modified arctic air. Not much is expected to change for the next few weeks? We recieved 4cm of new snow over the last week at 2200m, as the snow we expected never came, and instead went south. Maybe we will have some fresh snow gun pow for the weekend.

The upper ridge is expected to hold throughout next week, extending the drought yet further. Winds will most likely remain light from the north. Temperatures are expected to remain cold under the influence of the arctic air. Continued alpine sunshine and valley cloud is the most likely scenario throughout the period.

Alpine Forecast

Friday: Alpine temperatures around -12 C. Light Northwest winds with strong Northerly outflow winds in large valleys.

Saturday: Mix of sun and cloud with light Westerly winds and alpine temperatures around -10 C.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy with very light precipitation and light Northwest winds. Alpine temperatures around -17 C.

Into next week: Even colder by mid week -20C possible in the valley.
