Winter storm warning / battle of the airmasses

Some messy weather coming in the next 48hrs as a building arctic high pressure in the interior will battle a approaching warm front. A winter storm warning has been issued by Environment Canada which basically means Hwy 99 will be a mess by early this evening and into tomorrow, so plan your travel accordingly.  The precipitation is expected to begin as snow and possibly change to freezing rain as the two weather systems collide. Hopefully we will get a good dump to the valley before it turns to rain. The rest of the week looks really warm 7C by Thursday as warm air continues it's invasion from the south.

Winter storm warning in effect for:
  • Whistler
Hazardous winter conditions are expected.

A major winter storm will begin to impact the South Coast tonight. Snow will begin this evening and then become heavy at times overnight through Sunday. Total accumulations of 15 to 25 cm are expected by late Sunday evening. The snow will change to heavy rain or freezing rain Sunday night in Howe Sound and likely to freezing rain on Monday for Whistler.
Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.

Winter Storm Warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.
