Smokepocalypse

Wildfire smoke remains trapped in the valley, and remain at high AQHI values through the day today, consider reducing your exposure.

We have been seeing readings of 10 and 10+ through the past 24hrs. Posing a serious health risk to young and elderly people.

July 6, 2015 – Sea-to-Sky Corridor The Ministry of Environment in collaboration with the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority has issued a Wildfire Smoke Advisory for the Sea-to-Sky Corridor and surrounding areas because of forest fire smoke that is affecting areas from Howe Sound through Squamish and Whistler to Pemberton and surrounding areas. Smoke concentrations will vary widely as winds, fire behaviour and temperatures change. This situation is expected to persist until meteorological conditions change. Avoid strenuous outdoor activities. If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, contact your health care provider: difficulty in breathing, chest pain or discomfort, and sudden onset of cough or irritation of airways. Exposure is particularly a concern for infants, the elderly and those who have underlying medical conditions such as diabetes, and lung or heart disease.

PEMBERTON -- Fire activity on the Elaho wildfire, the Boulder Creek wildfire and the Cougar Creek wildfire has led to thick smoke blanketing Pemberton and the surrounding areas.
This smoke resulted in very poor visibility throughout the morning and afternoon. Aircraft assigned to the Boulder Wildfire Complex were unable to fly today given these conditions. In total, there are 13 helicopters assigned to this wildfire complex.

While smoke hampered aircraft from supporting suppression efforts, it benefited fire activity, acting as shade over the fire, trapping moisture and therefore increasing relative humidity. No significant growth for these fires has been reported. The Elaho wildfire is still estimated at 20,000 hectares. The Cougar Creek wildfire, south of the Nahatlatch River, is estimated at 5,000 hectares. The Boulder Creek wildfire was estimated at 12,000 hectares yesterday. Due to better intelligence received from the field, it has been determined that this fire is closer to 5,000 hectares.
